Jangwa (Practice)
Art Description
“Impermanence Series” is a collection of paintings that illustrates the ever fleeting emotions we experience as human beings. These pieces employ the use of “Tsapa”, a technique of applying pigmented powder to a dotted stencil. The “tsapa” is applied over a transitioning blue- black and ochre yellow background capturing an almost transient moment. The seemingly delicate dots in danger of blowing away with a gust of wind or properly placed exhale anger, happiness, joy, sadness, fear that are just as fleeting as the Tsapa that seems ready to be swept away. We cannot keep the Tsapa from being swept away any more than we can hold on to emotions. We can, however, reapply the tsapa. It is in the habits, choices and responses that we practise everyday and every moment that constitute our overall feelings. Happiness is a practice.

I was born and raised in Bhutan, finished my undergrad from Wheaton College, MA, with a double major in Economics and Fine Arts.
My first exhibition, Faces, was the first solo exhibition by a female artist in Bhutan. It was about people and their way of coping with society by wearing different ‘Faces’. I am currently working on a series of paintings that are an exploration of traditional Bhutanese paint (saa- tshen) and imagery
