UN SDG & Buddhism Art United

Art Description

In 2015, the United Nations adopted 17 sustainable development goals as “a universal call to make an action to protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.”

The endless knot merged with these goals represents bringing peace to every living and non-living person
in this world. The Dharma Wheel represents the eight auspicious signs of Buddhism: right view, right thinking, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right diligence, right mindfulness and right concentration to achieve peace in one’s life.

The four harmonious friends symbolise unconditional unity, respect, friendship, cooperation and generosity.

TANDIN TSHERING

Born 1999, from Punakha

As a student, I was more interested in art than academics. My father was disappointed when I didn’t do well in Class 10, and couldn’t continue in free public school. But I was excited to join the School of Thirteen Traditional Arts. I was inspired by one of the teachers, Tshewang Tenzin, from whom I learned a lot. Even during my off days I used to visit his art studio, Art United. He never fails to teach us in many different ways. Six years later, upon graduation from the institute, he took me into Art United as part of his special team and motivated me to be a successful artist. What I am today is all thanks to him, my favourite and only teacher.
