Tranquillity and Peaceful Coexistence

Art Description

The Memorial Chorten, one of Thimphu’s icons, was built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928-1972) and is dedicated to World Peace.

The serene white structure, where you can
hear the soothing sounds of bells and cooing
of doves, perfectly represents the duality of Bhutan’s ancient cultural heritage and modernity, coexisting in harmony.

Sonam Tshering

Born 1955, from Thimphu

I am a retired banker who first started painting as a favourite pastime since my school days. I am a self-taught painter and my paintings mostly depict landscapes and the bounties of nature as a way to express my lifelong love and concern for nature. Nature, its light and colours, mountains, winding rivers, lush green valleys, fields and forests have always been a great source of inspiration for me. Over the years, such a meaningful engagement has proven to be a natural healing process, thus attributing to greater inner peace of mind and happiness in my life.
