Bumpa Dorji

Born 1991, from Tashi Yangtse

My father would carve on stone and wood, he would take me to different homes in our village to assist him. I couldn’t secure a scholarship to study further after 10th grade, so I joined the National Institute of Zorig Chusum, and chose to study the art of Wood and Mask Carving. After graduating from the institute, I began receiving many commissions to create works for temples and even individual homes. I am now a teacher of the wood and mask carving department at the institute of Zorig Chusum. The independence of innovation attracted me to take up this profession and I am enjoying every single moment of it.
