Healing the Land
Art Description
In Bhutan, there was a recent initiative from His Majesty to plant a million fruit tree saplings. The idea is that these trees are a gift from us to the future, those who come after us will be the ones to enjoy the fruit of our labours. The work is an attempt at creating a representation of the million fruit trees- a profound initiative that turns the act of farming into something great and meaningful.

When I was growing up, Bhutanese students did not have access to art classes anywhere. So I learnt through observing other artists and copying pictures from books. Currently, I am exploring using paper pulp by employing my skills in paper making, inspired by my professor Wauke Choken. My work obliges me to exercise patience in the preparation and use of the paper fibres. My works are complete only after they have been dried with the sun and wind. So, I engage with nature too.
As a school teacher, I initiated an art club to encourage students in art. Finally, I went to an art college and came back to initiate the first art curriculum for Bhutanese primary schools. At present I am self-employed as an art gallery owner.
